Watson Plays Bridesmaid to Johnson in Toledo

TOLEDO- "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride," the saying haunts Erica Watson, who came up short yesterday again in her latest bid to become the first woman to win an NASP tournament. Watson cruised through the early rounds as she dispatched Weston, Cooper, and Martinez in short order. The crowd of 47 spectators went wild in anticipation. History was in the making when Marcus Johnson, a winner at last year's Rockin' Reno Showdown, stepped to the toeline for the final match. "I was determined to look her straight in the eyes. Cleavage kills when it comes to staredown," said Johnson. "It was pretty chilly too, but the two friends weren't working their magic," said Watson as she pointed at her secret weapons. This was Watson's second Runner-Up trophy, after an early season showing at the Portland Regional Classic, in which she fell in the finals to Michael Cooper. Yet Watson remains determined to finish on top. "I'm pushing myself further and further, it's only a matter of time before I'm on that winner's podium. History will be made this season, mark my words."
