Patterson Loses at Home!

For the first time since the inception of the NASP, Tony Patterson isn't the champion of Stare-till-you-drop Austin. More shocking than that was the fact he lost in the first round to circuit rookie Jason Bonner.
After a profanity-laced tirade against anyone who would listen, Tony gave only one explanation of what happened at the toe line.
"I lost...I f ---ing lost," was all the former champion could muster.
After initially claiming that this season would be his "Return to Glory" many in the sport are wondering if the self-proclaimed legend has lost his edge. Some have even speculated on a possible retirement.
"Tony is a great champion. It would be hard to claim anyone has done more for the sport of staredown than him," claimed fellow competitor Greg Doyle, "But you can't keep it up forever, and I'd rather see him go out with dignity rather than some washed up hack who just shows up for the free snacks. That'd be a shame."
The scene in Austin after the loss was almost surreal. Many who came to cheer their hero on didn't know what to do. Some left, but others hung around to watch Montgomery take Johnson in the finals.
"I was sad," said little Eric Smith whose father was taking him to his first staredown event.
"Staredown will go one, trust me, it's roots are too deep," claimed Alex Everett.
       Let's hope so.
